A woman involved in processing travelers from abroad tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Tuesday.

The new asymptomatic carrier, identified by her surname, Huang, lived at the Lavande Hotel in Renhe township, Beiyun district. She had been under closed-loop management and moved only between the hotel and her workplace, according the city's health commission.

She was sent to Guangzhou Eighth People's Hospital for medical observation on Tuesday.

Huang tested negative between Dec 1 and 12. An initial investigation indicated she was likely to have been infected accidentally when transferring COVID-19 patients who had come from abroad.

Samples taken from her workplace all tested negative and the risk of local transmission was low, the commission said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, two new asymptomatic carriers were reported in Dongguan, Guangdong province, on Wednesday.

The women were identified on Tuesday as having had close contact with the two asymptomatic carriers reported in the city on Monday and who were quarantined at a designated venue, according to the city's center for disease control and prevention.

Nucleic acid testing began on Wednesday for all residents and visitors in Dongguan except those in Songshanhu, Liaobu, Dalingshan, Huangjiang, Changping and Dongkeng.
