Jiangsu to award individuals for stopping domestic violence
Individuals will be awarded for their contribution as Good Samaritan if they stop domestic violence in East China's Jiangsu province from March 2022.
According to the province's Anti-Domestic Violence Regulation, which was released on Thursday, physical, mental, sexual violence and financial control will all considered be as domestic violence.
Yan Dong, a member of the standing committee of Jiangsu People's Congress, said individuals are encouraged to report and stop any domestic violence they notice.
"Domestic violence cannot be simply classified as family issues," he said. "Instead, it's crime against human rights. The whole society should take a policy of zero tolerance when it comes to domestic violence."
As per the regulation, a mandatory reporting system will be applied in schools, kindergartens, medical institutions and social service departments, requiring them to report domestic violence and help the people in need.
Anybody that fails to report domestic violence will be punished in accordance with the regulation.
The province recently said that as of Nov 20, the local courts had issued 1,356 restraining orders for 1,907 people who sought help from the courts this year.
People who violate the restraining orders will be fined up to 1,000 yuan ($157) and detained for 15 days.
