Question: On October 21st, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss issued a statement, expressing concerns over the disqualification or resignation of some District Councillors in Hong Kong for political reasons, and claiming that the "Hong Kong SAR Government must uphold freedom of speech and allow the public a genuine choice of political representatives". What is the comment of the Chinese Embassy in the UK?

Embassy Spokesperson: The Chinese side strongly opposes the above-mentioned irresponsible remarks on Hong Kong affairs by the British government official, which has interfered in China's internal affairs.

Improving the electoral system in the Hong Kong SAR, implementing the relevant decision and observing the principle of "patriots governing Hong Kong" are conducive to upholding "One Country, Two Systems", promoting the healthy development of the democratic political system in the Hong Kong SAR, safeguarding the rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents, and ensuring the long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong. These measures have won full recognition and support of Hong Kong residents and the international community.

China has resumed sovereignty over Hong Kong since 1997. Now, Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs and brook no external interference. China urges the UK side to stop political manipulation on Hong Kong-related issues and stop interfering in China's internal affairs in any way.
