The store also doubles as a "circular lifestyle lab" that features sustainability-themed exhibitions.

Announced three years ago at the Global Climate Action Summit, the Starbucks Greener Stores framework is dedicated to areas like energy efficiency, waste reduction and the promotion of a sustainability culture in all of its stores. The company is planning to open 10,000 such stores globally by 2025.

Shanghai is a testing ground for a number of the coffee giant's landmark moves. In 2017, the coffee chain opened its largest store in the world – the Shanghai Starbucks Reserve Roastery - on West Nanjing Road, introducing technologies like augmented reality to provide customers with an immersive coffee experience.
