XI'AN - Fujian snatched two straight wins on the opening day of the men's U19 3x3 basketball tournament at China's 14th National Games, topping in the pool with Shanghai, another undefeated side on Thursday.

Wu Zebin helped Fujian beat Shandong 15-14 through a buzzer beater, and the 2019 Chinese National Youth Games gold medalist scored seven points later as Fujian moved past Guangdong 21-12.

Shanghai defeated Hubei 21-20 before seeing off Tianjin 21-16. They will face title favorite Fujian on Saturday.

In the women's U19 event, Sichuan, Henan and Shandong were group leaders with two wins.

Originated from the streetball, 3x3 basketball is considered the world's No. 1 urban team sport. According to the International Olympic Committee, more than 430,000 players from 182 countries and regions participate in world competitions.

In the National Games 3x3 basketball tournament, teams play in a league-like format in the first session. The best two teams directly reach the semifinals, and except the lowest-ranked two teams, the remaining four teams are scheduled to play two playoff games to determine the other two semifinalists.

3x3 basketball events at the National Games will conclude on September 26. Enditem
