Most Nanjing COVID-19 cases related to city's intl airport

Most of the newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, can be related to the city's Lukou International Airport and its neighboring areas, according to the Nanjing Health Commission on Wednesday.

The city reported 47 new locally-transmitted confirmed cases and one asymptomatic carrier on Tuesday, local authorities said on Wednesday.

"Multiple cluster infections have been detected in Nanjing," Yang Dasuo, deputy director of the health commission, said at a news conference.

He urged residents to avoid gathering, stay home and stop visiting others as 153 locally-transmitted confirmed cases had been reported in Nanjing since July 21.

Four cases among the confirmed are in severe condition. Confirmed cases have been found in various occupations, such as student, taxi driver and photographer.

The Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University has formed a team consisting of 32 medical workers from the intensive care unit and respiration and infectious disease departments to help treat children infected with COVID-19. They are receiving treatment at the Nanjing Public Health Medical Center, the city's designated hospital for the disease.
