A person infected with the virulant Delta variant of coronavirus has been identified in Jinan, Shandong province, the province's Health Commission said on Thursday. It was the first time the province had detected the mutated variant, first identified in India.
The Delta variant was confirmed after the Shandong Center for Disease Control and Prevention conducted whole-genome sequencing analysis on the samples of an imported asymptomatic carrier in Shandong.
The asymptomatic carrier has been under closed-loop management since entering China from South Korea on July 16. The patient is being observed at a designated hospital.
