Foshan, Guangdong province, reported one new COVID-19 patient on Thursday who caught the virus via local transmission. The city had identified no such case in the previous 13 days.

The patient, a 64-year-old man, was sent to the hospital for treatment after he tested positive for the virus during home quarantine. He had been in close contact with a previously diagnosed COVID-19 patient and undergone medical observation at a designated venue before returning home, the city's health bureau said.

Guangzhou reported no new local infections on Thursday.

Since the outbreak on May 21, Guangzhou has recorded 144 local patients and seven local asymptomatic carriers.
