Uruguay seeking support for Suarez in WC qualifiers
MONTEVIDEO - Uruguay head coach Oscar Tabarez said he is yet to decide who will accompany Luis Suarez in attack for the Celeste's FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Thursday.
Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani will miss the match due to suspension while Darwin Nunez, Maxi Gomez and Cristhian Stuani have also been ruled out with injury.
Uruguay's options were further limited on Tuesday when attacking midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta tested positive for COVID-19.
"At this moment there may be some doubt about the initial formation," Tabarez told reporters. "One of them is how to accompany Luis Suarez in the central attacking area. It's something that we're looking at."
Tabarez could opt to start with Los Angeles FC winger Brian Rodriguez and possibly Cruz Azul forward Jonathan Rodriguez for the match at Estadio Centenario.
The Celeste, who will also face Venezuela in Caracas next Tuesday, are currently fifth in the 10-team South American zone qualifying group with six points from four matches.
