Guangzhou puts two subdistricts on alert as cases rise

The subdistricts of Baihedong and Zhongnan in Liwan district in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, have been listed as high-risk areas as the city continues to fight the COVID-19 outbreak.
Guangzhou city reported seven new locally-transmitted COVID-19 cases and five local asymptomatic carriers on Tuesday.
Elsewhere in Guangdong province, Foshan city reported three new locally-transmitted COVID-19 cases, all from previously identified asymptomatic carriers, and Shenzhen city recorded two more local asymptomatic carriers, according to the provincial health commission.
Meanwhile, the speculation that a man who was quarantined in Liwan district after returning from abroad and tested positive later in Nanning, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, caused this round of outbreak in Guangzhou has been ruled out.
All efforts are being made to trace the origin of the outbreak, said Zhang Zhoubin, deputy director of the Guangzhou center for disease control and prevention, in an interview with China Central Television.
