Tourism ministry emphasizes safety
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has called for efforts to strengthen the safety management of A-level scenic spots as the peak tourist season draws near. A few safety incidents at some tourist attractions recently caused tourist casualties and impacted the recovering tourism market, the ministry's general office said. That prompted the ministry to demand that A-level tourist sites across the country set their capacity within a reasonable range and continue requiring reservations, it said in a circular.
CNNC deputy chief economist probed
Liu Houcheng, deputy chief economist at the China National Nuclear Corporation, is being investigated for suspected serious violations of Party disciplines and national laws, the country's top anti-graft bodies said on Wednesday. Liu is being investigated by the discipline inspection team stationed at the CNNC and the Henan Provincial Supervisory Commission, the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission said.

Giant salamander seen in nature reserve
A giant salamander approximately 1.4 meters long and around 50 years old was spotted on Monday in a national nature reserve on Liupan Mountain, a major ecological barrier in northwestern China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region. It was the first time the species had been seen in the nature reserve, its administration said. Staff members spotted the salamander while cleaning the Jinghe River. Forest public security bureau and administration staff members then rushed to the site to rescue the animal. According to preliminary measurements, it weighs 20 kilograms and the width of its head is about 23 centimeters.
