Famous for its history tied to the Communist Party of China, Jiangxi province has been promoting tourism by integrating red history — a reference to the historical heritage of the CPC — since the province introduced Party-related tourismin 2004, said Zhu Hong, a deputy to National People's Congress.

From 2016 to 2020, tourist volume and revenues in red tourism in Jiangxi has accounted for about 25 percent of total tourism volume and revenues in the province, Zhu said.

The 2021 China Red Tourism Exposition will be held in Jiangxi. To showcase red tourism in Jiangxi, Zhu suggested the province should organize all its tourism resources, develop innovative red tourism themes combined with outdoor activities and strengthen red tourism marketing.

Red education in elementary and middle schools should be another focus for the province, said Zhang Guoxin, principal of the Attached Middle School of Jiangxi Normal University and a deputy to the National People's Congress.

While Jiangxi has made progress in developing red education teaching materials and related studies, it still faces challenges such as a shortage of faculty and limited protection of red cultural resources, Zhang said.

Zhang suggested that legislation is needed to support red education, which would include regulations protecting and utilizing resources and opening up educational spots for elementary and middle school students.

Tang Ziye contributed to the story.
