BEIJING -- Chinese political advisers brainstormed ideas for high-quality development in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) period at a teleconference held Monday during the ongoing annual session of the top political advisory body.

Wang Yang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, attended the meeting.

Twelve CPPCC National Committee members spoke at the teleconference.

Wang Lu called for establishing a clean, low-carbon energy system and pushing forward the industrial restructuring as the 14th Five-Year Plan period is crucial for the country to peak its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and begin to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

Liu Wei said that efforts should be made to raise and stabilize personal incomes, encourage consumer spending and advance supply-side structural reform.

Efforts should be made to improve privacy protection and data security, said Gan Lin, calling for further opening-up to build open and win-win cooperation systems on big data and blockchain.

Hao Yue proposed promoting innovation and building major scientific and technological platforms including national laboratories.

Jing Zhu suggested supporting more prominent private enterprises in carrying out technology research in key areas.

Tao Kaiyuan attached great importance to the mental health of adolescents and advancing the Healthy China initiative.

Noting that the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will be a milestone event during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Yang Yang called for comprehensive preparation work and COVID-19 prevention and control for the Games.
