Rail freight volume up 11.8% last month
The volume of freight carried on China's railways hit a record high in January as economic activity steadily recovered. Railways transported 324 million metric tons of cargo last month, up 11.8 percent year-on-year, according to data from the China State Railway Group Co Ltd. Transport of coal used for power generation amounted to 120 million tons, surging 23 percent year-on-year.
Lenovo posts record revenue of $17.2b
Lenovo Group, the world's biggest maker of personal computers, posted record revenue and profit for the third quarter that ended in December, on the back of a strong growth in its personal computer, digital transformation and other businesses. The company said revenue rose by 22 percent on a quarterly basis to $17.2 billion during the third quarter, the highest ever growth. Net profit rose by 53 percent to a record $395 million in the October-December quarter. Lenovo said its transformational investments continued to drive new long-term growth opportunities.
FAW-Volkswagen sells more cars in January
FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co Ltd, the passenger car joint venture between China FAW Group Co Ltd and Volkswagen AG, reported strong automobile sales in January. Its vehicle sales soared 27.7 percent on a yearly basis to 241,587 units last month. Of the total sales, the Volkswagen brand sold 140,499 units, while sales under the Audi and Jetta brands reached 86,888 units and 14,200 units, respectively, the carmaker said.
