95 percent of population have social security cards

By the end of 2020, 1.34 billion people had social security cards in China, covering 95 percent of population, according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.
China has built the world's largest social security system in the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), according to the communique of the fifth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China which was released in October 2020.
The country's basic medical insurance has covered over 1.3 billion people, and the basic old-age insurance has covered nearly 1 billion people, according to the communique.
