Stomach surgery helps man lose weight — a lot of it
A multidisciplinary team from Union Hospital affiliated with Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology performed surgery to remove most of the stomach of an extremely obese man in Hubei province.
Zhang Xuan, 33, who is 1.54 meters tall, weighed 178 kilograms before the operation. Zhang is from Qingshan district of Wuhan, Hubei.
Zhang had encountered many problems before the operation. For instance, he could not walk properly or sleep well at night. He felt sleepy during working hours and easily fell asleep in the office in the daytime. His work performance was poor.
In June this year, Zhang was diagnosed with high blood sugar levels. He felt thirsty all the time and drank at least six bottles of water a day as his appetite kept growing.
