GUIZHOU

Three dead after workshop collapse

Three people died after a factory workshop under construction collapsed early on Wednesday morning in Liupanshui city, Guizhou province. The collapse happened at around 2:30 am, trapping five people. About four hours later, rescuers brought out three of them and sent them to hospital. By 3:05 pm, all five trapped people had been found and sent to the hospital for treatment. Two had stable vital signs, but the other three died despite emergency treatment. The rescue work at the factory workshop has been completed, and other work on the aftermath of the collapse is underway.

HENAN

4,000-year-old grave pottery unearthed

Drinking vases, tripods for cooking meat and containers for holding food were among earthenware grave goods unearthed from the ruins of a late Neolithic civilization dating back more than 4,000 years in Henan province. They are believed to be the oldest of their kind in the nation. A total of 33 earthenware objects were found arranged in order bearing ritual characters, said Wu Weihua, a researcher with the Henan Provincial Institute of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology who led the excavation at the Yuzhuang site. Wu's team has been engaged in a rescue excavation on the site in Yexian county in Henan since August. The team has found more than 50 tombs, house foundations, ash pits and cellar holes from an area covering over 1,000 square meters. Some 200 artifacts, including the grave goods, were also excavated in the area.

YUNNAN AND JILIN

Provinces appoint acting governors

Wang Yubo was appointed both acting governor and vice-governor of Yunnan province on Wednesday, according to a decision by the standing committee of the provincial legislature. Wang, born in January 1963, is a native of Zhenping, Henan province. He now also serves as deputy secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China. The 21st session of the Standing Committee of the 13th Yunnan Provincial People's Congress on Wednesday also accepted the resignation of Chen Hao from the post of chairman of the standing committee of the provincial legislature and the resignation of Ruan Chengfa from the post of provincial governor. In addition, Han Jun has been appointed both acting governor and vice-governor of Jilin province, according to a decision made by the Jilin legislature's standing committee on Wednesday. Further, the 25th session of the Standing Committee of the 13th Jilin Provincial People's Congress accepted the resignation of Jing Junhai from the post of provincial governor.
