XI'AN -- Four people were killed, and six injured at a multiple-vehicle collision in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, local authorities said on Tuesday.

The collision happened at around 7 am on Tuesday on a 600-meter highway section in the city of Tongchuan, according to the local rescue headquarters.

The heavy fog and ice on a sloped bridge had caused three accidents that led to the collision of over ten trucks. Fourteen vehicles burnt, and more than 40 were stranded due to the accidents.

The local authorities sent more than 300 people and over 40 vehicles to assist in the rescue. Further investigations of the accidents are underway.
