Opinions collected for inclusion in key blueprint

Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, chaired a symposium to solicit opinions from non-Party members on drafting proposals to formulate the country's blueprint for the next five years and objectives through 2035, as part of a broader drafting process in which Xi assumed leadership.
Xi presided over the symposium on Aug 25 to solicit opinions from non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and people without party affiliation in drafting the CPC Central Committee's proposals for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035, according to a news release on Friday.
Xi underscored that drafting the proposal is part of realistic requirements to coordinate the strategic overall work of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and major changes unseen in a century. It is also an important way to give play to the strengths of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics, he said.
In drafting the proposals, Xi highlighted synergizing the "Two Centenary Goals", forming a better relationship between the government and the market and enabling better coordination between opening-up and self-reliance. It is important to balance development and security and devise a proposal that is forward-looking, pragmatic and effective, he said.
He encouraged non-Party members to continue to contribute knowledge and insightful opinions.
Han Wenxiu, deputy head of the Office of the Central Commission for Financial and Economic Affairs, said at a news conference of the CPC Central Committee on Friday that the proposals were drafted under Xi's leadership as he acted as leader of a group responsible for the drafting.
