Expo to mark 20 years of Mianyang science and tech city
The eighth China (Mianyang) Science and Technology City International High-Tech Expo will be held from Sept 21 to 25 in Mianyang, Sichuan province.
The theme of this year's event will be "Science and Technology Innovation and Open Cooperation". Activities, in both offline and online modes, will include forums featuring industry innovation development and 5G+ industrial internet, investment promotion conferences as well as digital exhibitions on the achievements and products of emerging and high-tech industries.
Wang Haifeng, deputy secretary of Sichuan provincial government, said this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of China (Mianyang) Science and Technology City.
As an important initiative to implement innovation-driven development strategy, the city has achieved remarkable results in creating an innovation ecology. In 2019, the city's GDP reached about 201.16 billion yuan ($29.4 billion), an increase of 8.6 percent.
The exposition, an annual event organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Sichuan provincial government, was initiated in 2013.
Mianyang was approved by the central government to build the China Science and Technology City in 2001 with the aim of becoming a regional technology hub.
