Qionglai in Southwest China's Sichuan province is leveraging advanced technologies to organize world-leading sports event, as the city strives for new growth engine and higher-quality development.

A Chinese soccer game with star players, which was broadcast through three-dimensional technologies, was held in Tianfu New Area in Qionglai, Chengdu, on Tuesday. Two local clubs – Xingcheng and Jiuniu – took part in the game.

While the event marked one of world's first soccer games to be shown live using such technologies, it is also a warm-up activity for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar. The move marked part of Qionglai and Chengdu's broader efforts to promote key projects for greater development.

After the event, Shanghai Cloud Vision Networks Technology Corp, technical supporter and global broadcaster of the naked-eye 3D soccer game, will establish a headquarters, a research and development base as well as a production base in Qionglai.

According to the company, it aims to develop into a unicorn firm in the naked-eye 3D industry, and will help Qionglai and Qatar to carry out cooperation in industrial projects, event training, venue construction, and friendship city construction.

At the same time, Qionglai said the city will make full use of this event to promote the new energy and new material industry function zone in Tianfu New District to the world.

A total of 14.5 billion yuan ($2 billion) of investments were signed in Qionglai recently, covering a slew of key areas including 5G, intelligent manufacturing, advanced materials and education.
