Mainland reports two new coronavirus cases


The latest report from the National Health Commission showed that the Chinese mainland added two further confirmed cases of coronavirus, the lowest in nine consecutive days, as of Wednesday midnight, bringing the overall number of confirmed infections to 82,967.
Guangdong province detected one new infection, an imported case, it said. There remain 43 imported cases nationwide with two in severe condition. Another seven people are under medical observation as suspected cases.
The other infection was locally transmitted case in Shanghai. The woman came to Shanghai from Wuhan, the city hit hardest by the coronavirus, on May 11 to accompany her husband for medical treatment. She was tested negative for the virus on May 8, according to Shanghai municipal government.
One new suspected infection, an imported case, was detected in Shanghai over the course of Wednesday.
Five more patients were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday, taking the total number of cured people to 78,249.
At present there are 84 COVID-19 confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland, including eight in severe condition. A total of 4,864 people are still under medical observation.
The commission said 31 asymptomatic infections were detected over the course of Wednesday. None turned into a confirmed case. A number of 375 such cases are under medical observation, including 29 imported cases.
So far Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan have reported a total of 1,540 confirmed cases. The number of fatalities in Hong Kong and Taiwan are respectively four and seven.
