Jilin city confirms another infection
A new case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Jilin city, Jilin province, on Tuesday, a senior city official said on Wednesday, and authorities are redoubling their efforts to prevent a new wave.
According to Yang Limin, deputy secretary-general of the Jilin city government, the new confirmed case was reported in the Fengman district, bringing the city's total of locally confirmed cases to 40 since May 7, when the first case in a COVID-19 cluster was detected.
It was the eighth consecutive day that Jilin city, located in the middle of Jilin province, had reported a new case.
"The Jilin city government has now sent eight epidemiological investigation teams to the city of Shulan to help guide and fight the pandemic," Yang said at a news conference on Wednesday.
As of Tuesday, Jilin city has reviewed 10,228 residents and traced a total of 1,181 close contacts of confirmed cases, Yang said.
Forty testing centers have been set up in the city's Fengman district alone to encourage residents to be tested, he said.
Meanwhile, the National Health Commission sent two mobile laboratories and the provincial government sent another to Jilin city to ensure the testing of high-risk groups in the city.
As of Tuesday, a total of 88,303 local residents have been tested for the coronavirus, Yang said.
