Tsunami warning issued after 7.5-magnitude quake jolts off Kuril Islands

BEIJING - The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has issued a tsunami warning Wednesday after an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 jolted off the Russia's Kuril Islands, according to the US Geological Survey.

The earthquake jolted 219 km southeast off the Kuril Islands at 13:49 local time (0249 GMT) on Wednesday, with a depth of 56.65 km.

No casualties or damage have been reported yet.

The PTWC warned that hazardous tsunami waves were possible within 1,000 km of the quake's epicenter, with Hawaii in the range.

Previous reports said the earthquake was measured at 7.8 magnitude.
