Velez, Racing clinch top four Superliga places

BUENOS AIRES -- Velez Sarsfield and Racing Club secured top four places in the Argentinian Superliga's final standings by winning their final games of the league season on Monday.
Velez clinched third spot with a 3-0 victory at Union Santa Fe, thanks to goals from Lucas Janson, Lucas Robertone and Maxi Romero.
It marked a happy farewell for former Real Madrid and Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze, who announced last week that the fixture would be his last as Velez's head coach.
In Monday's only other match, last season's champions Racing Club guaranteed themselves of fourth place by winning 2-1 at Estudiantes. Hector Fertoli and Jonatan Cristaldo netted either side of half-time for the visitors before Nahuel Estevez pegged a late goal back for Estudiantes.
Velez and Racing both ended the season with 39 points from 23 matches, nine points behind Boca Juniors, who secured the title on Saturday by beating Gimnasia 1-0 at La Bombonera.
River Plate, who had led the league for most of the season, finished second - one point behind Boca - after their 1-1 draw at Atletico Tucuman on Saturday.
