Guangxi resumes border trade with Vietnam

As four vans carrying live lobster coming back from Vietnam reached Dongxing, a port city in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, suspended border trade due to the novel coronavirus outbreak came back into operation on Wednesday.

Bordering Mong Cai in Vietnam, Dongxing provides a major trade link between China and Vietnam.

Everyone living in the border areas of the two countries is allowed to import a daily limit of up to 8,000 yuan ($1,130) worth of products for daily use without paying duties, which serves as a critical way to increase local people's income.

After the outbreak of novel coronavirus nationwide, Guangxi suspended border trade with Vietnam to contain the spread of the virus.

Have communicated with Vietnam many times, Guangxi announced on Wednesday the resumption of border trade across the region on the condition that both sides launch effective prevention measures and the exchange of trade must take place in a designed area, among desigated personnel of designated enterprises.

According to the local government, 7.11 tons of lobster were exchanged on Wednesday with a value of over 2.27 million yuan at the floating bridge area, one of the exchange markets in Dongxing.
