Overseas Chinese show love for country through donation

More than 90,000 masks, pairs of goggles, protective suits and related products that have been donated by overseas Chinese to help fight the novel coronavirus finally arrived in Xiangtan city in Central China's Hunan province early Thursday morning after traveling through five nations and being relayed by many overseas Chinese living abroad.
A truck carrying 63 cases of anti-novel coronavirus products arrived in the city's federation of trade unions at about 3 am, and were quickly delivered to frontline medical staff and media representatives now working at Xioangtan No. 1 People's Hospital, Xiangtan County People's Hospital, neighborhood committees and communities to help prevent and control the outbreak of the deadly disease , according to a report from local outlet Xiangtan Daily.
The products were airlifted from abroad to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in South China's Guangdong province at about 1 pm on Wednesday.

The anti-novel coronavirus products included 90,000 disposable medical masks, 1,700 N95 masks, 400 protective suits and plenty of goggles and surgical caps. They were purchased and donated to medical staff in Xiangtan by overseas Chinese groups from Hunan province in the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, the United States and Australia.
Guo Liming, president of the Hunan Chamber of Commerce in the United Arab Emirates, said the donation showed the great concern they had for the motherland after the outbreak of the pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus.
Guo's chamber alone donated 80,000 disposable medical masks, and Guo himself donated 1,200 N95 masks.
"The anti-novel coronavirus masks, protective suits, goggles and related products have been in short supply after the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, and we ordered the products at the beginning of February," he said.

According to an official from the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs of Xiangtan, overseas Chinese who can trace their roots to Xiangtan have donated more than 1 million yuan of anti-novel coronavirus products to the city so far.
