In the ocean of globalisation, China and the UK could ride the waves and sail far if we sail together.

In the past 23 years since its establishment, APPCG has played a positive role in enhancing China-UK friendship and cooperation. Going forward, I hope the Lords and MPs present tonight will continue to make a positive impact.

I hope you will continue to be builders of China-UK relations. There is a lot to do to promote parliamentary exchanges and cooperation, so as to make positive contribution to deepening political mutual trust between our two countries.

I hope you will continue to be promoters for China-UK cooperation. There are opportunities for business cooperation between your constituencies and China waiting to be explored. Seizing them will enable us to deliver more tangible benefits to the peoples of our two countries.

And I hope you will continue to be contributors to China-UK friendship. You could all play a constructive role in enhancing the friendship between our peoples and promoting exchanges between different civilisations.

I also hope you will have the opportunity to visit China and find out for yourself about the meaning of new era for China. I am sure that if you look closely and from a comprehensive and objective perspective, you will find an open and inclusive civilisation that China is proud to be.

In conclusion, let's join hands to write a more splendid chapter of China-UK relations in the Year of the Rat!
