Construction of new opera house in Shanghai commences

“The form of the opera house, which is like a fan and a dancer, can convey the essence of Chinese culture and present the idea of connecting global visitors,” explained Chen.
The house will be one of the new landmarks introducing Shanghai’s cultural brand to the world. It will join the Shanghai Museum, China Art Museum, Shanghai Natural History Museum and the under-construction Shanghai Museum East Branch as cultural attractions with national and international influence.
“The development of the house in Shanghai should place priority on meeting the needs of domestic and foreign opera goers. Efforts should also be made on the popularization of opera to nurture special audience, and on exchanges and cooperation with opera houses on the global stage,” said Chen.
