Three Gorges scenic peak gets insured
CHONGQING -- The Shennu Peak in the Three Gorges area on the Yangtze River became the country's first insured natural land tourist site under a 100-million-yuan ($14.2 million) deal, according to the culture and tourism deportment of Wushan County Monday.
The Wushan Tourist Development Group Company signed the insurance deal with Jiang Tai Insurance Brokers Co Ltd in risk management of the scenic spot.
Shennu, meaning "goddess" in Chinese, is located on the northern bank of Wuxia Gorge of the Three Gorges, which presents the twists and turns of the Yangtze River, China's longest waterway.
As a Chinese legend goes, Yaoji, the goddess of Wushan, resides there. The peak stands out in the clouds like a graceful young girl and gets its name Shennu Peak.
The insurance deal was signed under the coordination of the Culture and Tourism Development Committee of Chongqing, which administers Wushan County.
The insurance deal is expected to help protect and maintain the sustainable development of the entire scenic zone of the Shennu Peak, according to the committee.
