Velez Sarsfield ended a four-game winless run to rise to fifth in the Argentinian Superliga on Sunday with a 3-1 home win over Colon.

Thiago Almada put the hosts ahead with a 22nd-minute goal and Leandro Fernandez made it 2-0 shortly after with a low 20-yard finish after a counterattack.

Christian Bernardi pulled a goal back for Colon but Nicolas Dominguez struck again for Colon early in the second half after fine work from Fernando Gago.

Meanwhile, Argentina international striker Adolfo Gaich struck two early goals to set his team on course for a 2-0 home win over Patronato.

In other matches on Sunday, Talleres Cordoba romped to a 5-0 win at Godoy Cruz, Rosario Central drew 1-1 at Central Cordoba and Independiente held Aldosivi to a goalless draw in Mar del Plata.
