The Beijing meteorological bureau issued a yellow alert for ice on roads at 4:40pm today, after the first snow of the season began at 2:50 pm in Yanqing district in the northern area of the capital.

A yellow alert means there is a likelihood of bad weather affecting public transportation.

According to the local meteorological bureau, Beijingers in the central urban area are expected to witness a heavier dusting starting in the evening, and a major snow will come at night.

As predicted, the snow will stop at around 5 to 8 am tomorrow morning.
