Blueprint for Winter Olympics support facility disclosed

Planning for a resort in Zhangjiakou, North China's Hebei province, a key support facility for the 2022 Winter Olympics, was disclosed on Tuesday, saying it will include a square for awarding medals and will start trial operations next September.
Taizicheng Resort, located in Chongli district, covers 2.89 square kilometers and can carry out multiple functions, including an awards square, a year-round commercial street, a conference center and hotels, according to a blueprint release conference held in Beijing on Tuesday. Chongli district will host most snow events for the 2022 games.
The 51 gold medals for the competitions to be held in Chongli will be awarded here at the square, as well as some cultural celebration events and exhibitions about the Winter Olympics, as reported by Hebei Daily.
The resort is expected to receive 20 billion yuan ($3 billion) in investment and the square will also be used as a station for the Taizicheng high-speed rail that connects the region with Zhangjiakou and Beijing.
As for its sustainable development, Taizicheng Resort will be developed as a year-round holiday resort after the 2022 Winter Olympics is completed.
Outdoor and indoor sports activities, like skiing, go-karting, mountaineering, camping, rock climbing and jungle adventures, can be enjoyed at the resort after this development.
"Taizicheng resort will be one of the engines for Chongli winter sports and also a business platform for international economic, cultural and scientific exchanges," Wu Weidong, the mayor of Zhangjiakou city, was quoted as saying by Sinobo Group, which held the release conference.
