New measures set to help ease parking problems in Beijing's Xicheng
Beijing's Xicheng district government has carried out new measures via innovation to cope with parking difficulties in its communities.
Sun Guangjun, director of Desheng Street in Xicheng, said on Wednesday that there was a shortage of 4,000 parking spaces in the region.
There are 22,000 parking spaces on Desheng Street while the demand is for about 26,000 spaces according to Sun.
The street authority helped companies in the region exchange parking spaces with residential communities. Thus, residents can park their cars at companies' parking areas at night, while during the daytime, company employees can use some parking spaces in the residential communities.
To ease residents' parking difficulties, the local authority delivered a device that can record the time a parking area is occupied to each local resident. They can pay their parking fee through the device, which is much lower than citizens from other areas of the city.
