Guangzhou-based Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, has taken the lead in the world to establish an advanced pediatric visual function evaluation system, a breakthrough in preventing and curing eye damage and diseases in infants, said a statement released by the center on Wednesday.

"The new system and technologies can be used to help screen the visual functioning and visual damage in infants to timely detect and provide treatments to infants before they can speak, and thus help prevent infants from having lifelong blindness in the future," said the statement.
