ULAN BATOR - Hong Kong affairs are China's internal affairs and acts of violence by rioters can never be tolerated by any society ruled by law, a senior Mongolian official has said.

"I learned that rioters in Hong Kong have stormed the government and legislative offices, thrown petrol bombs at police, torn up copies of the Basic Law and defaced the Chinese national flag as well as the regional emblem of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)," Deleg Zagdjav, president of the Peace and Friendship Organization of Mongolia, told local media early this week.

Expressing concerns about the situation in Hong Kong, Zagdjav, who is also deputy minister for Mining and Heavy Industry, said that acts of violence by rioters have "seriously threatened the rule of law and the safety of life and property of Hong Kong residents."

Hong Kong is part of China and its affairs are China's internal affairs, he said, adding that other countries have no reason to make irresponsible remarks and interfere in China's internal affairs.

"I believe the central government of China and the HKSAR government have the ability to properly resolve the problems," the official said, expressing the hope that Hong Kong can put an end to violence as soon as possible.
