Over 2,500 cartons of smuggled cigarettes seized in SW China

KUNMING - Police in Southwest China's Yunnan province have captured three suspects for smuggling 2,550 cartons of cigarettes in two recent cases, local authorities said Tuesday.
Border police in the city of Pu'er said the two seizures were both made on Aug 20. In the first case, police from Mengma township found 1,050 cartons of smuggled cigarettes after inspecting a minivan and nabbed one suspect.
Later that day, police in Mangxin township also seized 1,500 cartons of smuggled cigarettes from a minivan and arrested two suspects.
The two cases have been handed over to relevant departments, and further investigation is underway.
