Tiger cub dead after escaping Xinxiang circus

The tiger cub that on Friday jumped out of a cage at a circus in Xinxiang, Henan province, was confirmed dead by a zoo in the city on Sunday.
A Xinxiang Zoo official said the tiger was dead when it was sent to the zoo on Saturday and that the cause of the death is under investigation by the local forestry department, CCTV reported.
The tiger jumped out of the cage before running into a cornfield during a performance on Friday night.
It was then caught by local police with the use of anesthetic on Saturday morning and sent to the zoo.
According to the CCTV report, the tiger was hit by a car, which may have caused internal injuries.
No people were injured by the cub.
CCTV reported that circus management has been held by police for further investigations as their performance was not registered as required.
Local officials said it will carry out further investigations on the circus.
