8 year-old girl boxes up a storm in Southwest China
An eight-year-old girl is taking Chinese social media by storm with her boxing prowess. Zheng Yaqi can be seen training hard in the back garden of her home in Bijie, Southwest China's Guizhou province, in a footage.
The girl, nicknamed Xiao Tangyuan - meaning "sweet little dumpling" - by her family, reportedly spars regularly with her 10-year-old brother, with the duo also training by aiming blows at a punching bag and even the walls of their house.
Zheng Weixin, father of the two children started their training a year ago.
In June 2018, Zheng Yaqi was invited to participate in a children's boxing championship and, contrary to all expectations, won the match. "We didn't have confidence, the opponent was a professional. Our attitude was about participating instead of winning," Zheng Weixin said.
Zheng Weixin added he plans to send his daughter to a primary school where she can keep practicing the sport. "I hope she can insist on doing boxing," he said.
