Bayern reap 3-1 win over Cottbus in German Cup

BERLIN -- Bayern Munich cruised into the second round after beating fourth-division tier Energie Cottbus 3-1 on Robert Lewandowski's brace to conclude the first round in German Cup on Monday.
The defending champions needed only a couple of minutes to take full control of the proceedings on the pitch whereas the hosts' Energie Cottbus kept all their men behind the ball.
Nevertheless, it took the "Bavarians" 14 minutes before they got their first chance on target as Cottbus goalkeeper Lennart Moser tipped Robert Lewandowski's effort to the bar.
Despite their dominance Niko Kovac's men had to wait until the 32nd minute before Robert Lewandowski capitalized on Kingsley Coman's blocked header to tap home the opener from close range.
Lewandowski should have doubled the lead moments later but Moser was on guard to deny the striker with a reflex from sharp angle.
Bayern continued relentless as Coman rattled the woodwork with a diving header from the edge of the box in the 39th minute.
