New smart manufacturing institute launched in Lingang
Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft Society, a German research organization, had on March 26 jointly established a project center for smart manufacturing in Lingang, Shanghai’s leading science and technology region.
As the first Fraunhofer Project Center in China, the facility will carry out research on cutting-edge technology based on smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0, a project initiated by the German government to create new manufacturing systems that link advanced manufacturing techniques with the Internet of Things.
The research fields will include intelligent factory planning, information physics systems, digital twin technology, artificial intelligence assembly and man-machine integration manufacturing.
The achievements by the center will be important in advancing the digital transformation of the automotive, aerospace and shipbuilding industries.
The center will also engage in training and education as well as creating a cyber-physical cloud computing system to serve enterprises in smart manufacturing.
