President Xi Jinping has called on China Media Group - the country's largest state broadcaster - and people working in the television industry nationwide to strive for building world-class mainstream media with strong guidance, coverage and influence.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the call in a congratulatory message on the 60th anniversary of China Central Television.

CMG is a new broadcaster made up of CCTV, China National Radio and China Radio International.

Xi extended his greetings to employees of the national TV broadcaster, as well as other people working in television circles across the country, and called on CMG to be bold in its reforms and innovation and strengthen mainstream public opinion.

He hailed the great contributions that CMG has made in guiding public opinion and creating positive energy for the country's socioeconomic development, saying it has presented the world a real, multidimensional and panoramic view of China.

Xi called on employees of the state television broadcaster as well as other television broadcasters throughout the country to make more effort to improve capabilities in international communications and make greater contributions to realizing the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.

Founded on May 1, 1958, CCTV has a network of 41 channels broadcasting a variety of programs in six languages.
