Hebei busts big cross-border drug smuggling case

SHIJIAZHUANG -- Police in North China's Hebei province said Wednesday that they had busted a cross-border drug smuggling case and seized more than 94 kg of cocaine, the largest amount of the drug seized in a single case in the province since 1949.
In July last year, the provincial department of public security in Hebei received a report that a Panamanian cargo ship carrying a large amount of drugs would dock at a port in Tangshan city.
In November, police raided the ship in Tangshan and discovered 94.6 kg of cocaine and detained six suspects in a later operation. Some of the suspects were from India, Russia and Spain.
Further investigation is underway.
According to Feng Fan, deputy director of the department, Hebei has cleared 1,586 drug cases, arrested 1,770 suspects and seized more than 185 kg of drugs since 2017.
