Global experts to mark 10 years of Wenchuan quake

The International Conference for the Decade Memory of the Wenchuan Earthquake will be held from May 12 to 14, 2018, in Chengdu, southwestern China's Sichuan province, authorities from China Earthquake Administration said on Friday.
In collaboration with the academic and administrative organizations both in China and abroad, it's also the Fourth International Conference on Continental Earthquakes said Wang Manda, deputy director-general of Department of International Cooperation, China Earthquake Administration.
The conference, whose theme is Living with Seismic Risk, will consists of five topics, namely, visible crust, earthquake dissection, resilient cities and towns, smart service and regional and international cooperation.
It has been almost 10 years since the great Wenchuan earthquake in northwestern Sichuan. The impact of that devastating event on natural science and social sustainability is so important that a decade-long review will be of no doubt worthy of further development, Wang said.
The conference will focus on the exchange and cooperation in earthquake science and technology, countermeasures for earthquake disaster risk reduction, earthquake emergency response, and post-earthquake rescue, relief, and recovery, he added.
The conference has so far attracted experts and scholars from more than 40 countries and regions and various international organizations, Wang said.
