“Blood moon”, which occurs during a total lunar eclipse, appears when the sun, earth, and moon are aligned to form a line. The astronomical term for this type of alignment is syzygy, which comes from the Greek word for “being paired together”. The “blood moon” will appear twice in 2018, this Wednesday night and the morning of July 28.
Altogether, the three events will make for a spectacular show on the last night of January.
