PYONGYANG - Rodong Sinmun, a leading Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) newspaper, hailed Kim Jong-un, a son of late top leader Kim Jong-il, as "supreme commander" of the Korean People's Army (KPA) on Saturday.

"Comrade Kim Jong-un, please accept the title of supreme commander from the people and lead the Kim Il Sung Korea to an eternal victory," the editorial said.

In another editorial, the paper said the deceased leader "the indefectible flag of Songun Korea."

The editorial asked the KPA and the people of the DPRK to adhere to the Songun revolutionary road and stay loyal to the new leader, Kim Jong-un.

The paper said Kim Jong-il had paid great attention to strengthening the country's self-defence and had done his best to turn the KPA into an indefectible army with overwhelming power in the past 20 years.

The editorial said Kim Jong-un, a great successor to the revolutionary cause of Juche and an outstanding leader of the party, the army and the people, had faithfully assisted Kim Jong-il in leading the Songun revolution and had made great contributions in all fields, including military construction.

With his qualities and character, he is the perfect leader of the Songun revolution, the editorial said.

The army and the people of the DPRK would finally achieve the victory of the Juche revolution with the barrels of guns in their hands in accordance with the idea of Kim Jong-il, the editorial said.

The editorial also called on all the servicemen and the people to turn the sorrow of Kim Jong-il's death into strength and courage to build a great, prosperous and powerful nation.

Kim Jong-il died on a train during a field guidance tour on December 17.
