PYONGYANG -- A senior official of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea called Monday for an anti-U.S. and anti-war struggle to fulfill the national unity, the official news agency KCNA reported.

Yong Hyong Sop, vice president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, called on the South Koreans to open up a new phase of inter-Korean relations and peace and prosperity through their concerted efforts, in a national meeting marking the60th anniversary of the historic Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Public Organizations in North and South Korea held from April 19 to 23 in 1948.

He said that the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, reached by two countries' leaders respectively in 2000 and 2007, had brought about a new phase for the development of the inter-Korean relations and peace and prosperity.

The Koreans, from North and South, should frustrate the South Korean government's "anti-reunification policy and their moves for confrontation with the DPRK," he added.
