BEIJING -- Former "Prison Break" star Lane Garrison was sentenced Wednesday to 40 months in jail for causing the death of a 17-year-old high school student by dangerous driving.

Garrison looked calm and crisp in a taupe suit and white shirt as Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox pronounced his sentence in a Beverly Hills courtroom packed with friends and family of victim Vahagn Setian, according to media reports.

"I just want to say how sorry I am to the Setian family. I am sickened by my behavior on that night. My thoughts keep coming back to that night," Garrison said before sentence.

"I want to show that my walk with sobriety will be very easy. I want to help other kids not make the same mistake I did."

Best known for his 14-episode stint on "Prison Break," Garrison met high-schooler Setian and two of his friends at a grocery store on the night of the accident in December 2006. The teens recognized Garrison and invited him to a party. When they showed up, Garrison had a drink. The four left together soon thereafter, and minutes later the actor's 2001 Land Rover crossed a Beverly Hills median and collided with a tree.

The two teenage girls in the car were hospitalized, but they recovered now. Lane Garrison was also hospitalized after getting knocked unconscious.

The test of Garrison's blood sample showed that his alcohol level nearly twice California's legal limit and he was also under the influence of cocaine.

Garrison has also to pay close to $300,000 to the Setian family and two other female passengers.
