Dutch royal family sues Internet site over photos(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-10-27 22:12 BRUSSELS -- The Dutch royal family is pressing charges against an online club purportedly fostering relationships between children and adults, after it ignored a summon to remove photos of Princess Amalia and two of Prince Maurits' children from its website, Dutch media reported Saturday. "It is almost inconceivable to think of anything further beyond the limit of decency," said a spokesperson for the Dutch government information service on behalf of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander. The government information service initially demanded that the photos be removed from the Martijn site following a tip from an anti-paedophile group. The pictures were removed from the public section of the site, but remained on display in the section reserved for members. Princess Catharina-Amalia is the oldest daughter of Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima and second in line to the throne. Also shown on the site were Lucas and Anna, the children of Prince Maurits and Princess Marilene. The photos bore the caption "our royal family has once again produced a whole generation of little princes and princesses, thank goodness!" There were also allegedly comments of a sexual nature below the photos. These had been removed by Thursday afternoon. Martijn has also refused to sign a declaration that the placing of the photographs was unlawful. It placed a notice on its website saying that it is not responsible for the postings of its members. The case will go to court on Monday, Radio Netherlands reported. If found guilty, Martijn may face a penalty of 50,000 euros (about US$71,000) per offense. |
