Andermatt is a popular destination due to its splendid landscape, with waterfalls, famous ski slopes and a population of 1,300.

The first phase of residence operations will open on Dec 20, with the unveiling of the second phase in December 2014. It offers one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, which cover an area ranging from 110 to 306 sq m, and some large penthouses.

"We have interest in China and Asia and want to have a varied group of owners. As we've just started in the Chinese market, I think about 3 to 5 percent of the buyers will be Chinese," Croonenberghs says.

According to him, in Switzerland, foreigners require a permit to purchase a real estate and it's a long process. The government, however, has granted the project an exemption of the permit until the end of 2030.

He says the Chinese are changing their attitude and tend to pursue a lifestyle experience rather than just property investment.

The number of Chinese visitors to Switzerland increased by 50 percent in the last three years. At the same time, more Chinese are sending their children to Swiss hospitality schools.

"These people are all potential buyers."
